0 to 3 Month Cognitive Milestones
- Begins to learn cause and effect (ex: swat mobile, it swings OR smiles or cries, and a person reacts)
0 to 3 Month Social/Emotional Milestones
- Smile random, brief and mostly during sleeping (0-2months)
- Develops social smile- “real smile” (1-2 months)
- Begines to laugh ( 3 months)
- Moods will rub off on baby (ex:hears a cry, will cry)
- Beginning stages of communication: learns how to do certain things (give cues) and expects response
0 to 3 Month Language Milestones
- Begins attempt to communicate- babbles (6-8 weeks)
- Coos and ooos varying pitch
- May have happy facial expressions or finger movements during babbling
0 to 3 Month Senses Milestones
VISION
- Sees best with peripheral vision and sees primarily in 2D (0-2 months)
- Obligatory Looking – baby may fixate on a single object (2 months)
- Differentiates colors (primarily red/green only) if large and bright (2 months)
- Tracks moving objects much smoother and more precise (2 months)
- Contrast drastically improves- begins to see shades of color (2-3 months)
- Likes facial expressions and watches face intently
- Visual coordination of eyes and hand/eye coordination starts
- Recognizes familiar objects and people at a distance
HEARING
- Smiles at the sound of your voice
- Ability to hear volume variances improves drastically (can hear sounds other than loud volumes)
0 to 3 Month Fine Motor Milestones
- Reflexive grasp (birth)
- Hands tight fists (0-2 months)
- Bring hands within range of eyes and mouth, try to bring hands to mouth (1-2 month) and may be successful around end of 3 months
- Pre-reaching: ineffective reaching attempts (1-3 months)
0 to 3 Months Gross Motor Milestones
- Jerky movements lessen and smoothen (By end of 1st month)
- Holds head erect and steady (Avg. start: 1-2 months)
- While on tummy, lifts head and chest with arm support (Avg. start: 2-3 months)
- Sits with support (Avg. start:2-3months)
- Stretches legs and kicks when lying on stomach or back
