- Responds to other peoples expressions of emotion
3 to 6 Month Language Milestones
Responds to own name
- Responds when spoken to face to face
- Voice may express emotion (ex: happy, upset)
- Blows bubbles, sputters, and/or raspberries (4 months)
- Laughs when tickled (4 months)
- Add consonants to babbling and will combine consonants with vowels into long, repetitious strings (ex: babababa, mamama) (5 months)
3 to 6 Month Senses Milestones
TASTE
- No longer indifferent to salt taste and can choose preference for salty foods (4 months)
HEARING
- Prefers high frequencies vs. low ones
- Ability to distinguish full range of frequencies mostly fully develops
- Turns head toward direction of sound (4- 5 months)
VISION
- Acuity (clarity/sharpness) rapidly improves (2-5 months)
- Can see nearly all colors (3 months)
- Full range of color and shades (4 months)
- Distance vision matures
- Ability to track moving objects matures- babies anticipates vs follows the position of moving object
3 to 6 Fine Motor Milestones
Voluntary grasp: more relaxed, half open hands that baby can open and shut willfully (Avg. start: 3 months)
- Begins block play and manipulating blocks
- Grasp and shake hand toys
- Successful reach and grasp- could be 1 or 2 handed (Avg. start: 4-5 months)
3 to 6 Months Gross Motor Milestones
Rolls tummy to back (Avg. start: 3-4 months)
- Push down with straight legs and may bend knees to discover they can bounce (Around 3-4 months)
